Junior/Intermediate Frontend Web Developer

Do you love WordPress? Do you love Shopify? What about taking beautiful, detail-oriented designs from Figma (Figgy) and transforming them into stunning, lasting, optimized, functional websites? If so, we are looking for an enthusiastic Junior/Intermediate Frontend Developer to join our team. You will report directly to the lead developer and assist with all software coding and design functions.

Your primary focus will be to learn the codebase, action development tickets, configure content management system dashboards, assist in content management, and respond to requests from senior developers.

To ensure success as a Junior/Intermediate Frontend Developer, you should have a strong working knowledge of programming principles (DRY, SRP, etc.), the ability to learn new technology quickly, and the ability to work in a team environment. Ultimately, a top-class Junior/Intermediate Frontend Developer provides valuable support to the design team while continually improving their coding and design skills.

For this role, the successful candidate will work in our beautiful Vancouver-based office with the rest of our Very Polite team.

Skills + Qualifications:

  • 3–7 years of programming experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, related field or tangible work experience.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Accountable and proactive.
  • Knowledge of databases and operating systems.
  • Able to adapt to a fast-paced work environment and deliver for deadlines on-time.
  • Able to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Proficiency in PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS & SCSS, Liquid (nice to have)
  • Proficiency with WordPress and WordPress custom theme development.
  • Proficiency with Advanced Custom Fields.
  • Proficiency with Shopify and Shopify custom theme development
  • Familiarity with ThemeKit cross-platform command-line tool for building and maintaining Shopify themes.
  • Familiarity with CodeKit web development tool.
  • Familiarity with Bitbucket, Github and version control systems.
  • Familiarity with Figma, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.

Responsibilities:

  • You are proactive and able to assist the lead developer with all aspects of software design and coding.

Photography Retoucher & Assistant

We are looking for a talented Retoucher and Photography Assistant for our Photography & Production team. This role reports to the in-house photographer and works closely with our Co-founder/Partner of Photography Production, Project Manager, and our Graphic Design team. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, fast-learning and highly organized. This is a fast-paced position, and you must possess the ability to “go with the flow” as your day-to-day is constantly changing.

Skills + Qualifications:

  • Selecting and editing images according to the client’s brand guidelines
  • Retouch a variety of images including catalog, product, and on-model imagery
  • Retouching/utilizing standardized layer structure, masking, channels, etc.
  • Maintain image archive and digital asset organization in accordance with studio processes
  • Assist photographer(s) in-studio/on-sets/location photography shoots
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Graphic Design, PR and Project Manager)

    • Responsibilities:

  • 2+ yrs experience in a photo studio
  • Experience in lighting and photographing product
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently under tight deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail, highly organized, and able to manage several projects at a time
  • Team player that can take direction and work independently
  • Positive attitude and have a willingness to learn
  • Proficient with Capture One, Adobe Creative Suite and Mac OSXv
  • Knowledge of video and Adobe Premiere a plus
  • Able to provide portfolio of original work showcasing photography and retouching skills
  • Degree/Diploma in photography or equivalent experience is not required but good to have
